PATTEN – Joseph G. Corriveau, 91, passed away Oct. 27, 2006. “Joe” was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Fort Kent, the oldest son of Evaline (Theriault) and George A. Corriveau. He attended schools in Stockholm and Fort Kent. He worked in lumber camps and sawmills as well as on log drives during his younger years. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 30s, working in the forestry department. He enlisted in the Army during the European War, serving one year in the Panama Canal Zone with the 13th Infantry, which helped to reinforce the canal. In 1939 he married Madeline Peterson of Stockholm, and they moved to the Worcester, Mass., area, where he attended Worcester Technical College, learning the metallurgy trade. He was employed by L. Hardy Co. for 43 years. Joe was shop superintendent while employed by this commercial knife producer. In 1942, Joe was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served two years as a gunner’s mate in the Southwest Pacific on an A.P.L. No. 9. He was postmaster aboard that ship. Joe was an avid fisherman, as well as a sports enthusiast. He taught physical education at the YMCA in Worcester, Mass., and taught commando courses to enlistees for the military service. While in Massachusetts, he entertained in various nursing homes in the area with a small band called the Korn Kobs. Joe retired in 1982 and returned to Patten, where his brothers and sisters lived. He enjoyed many hours fishing and playing his harmonica, which he had learned to play as a young boy. He joined the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Aroostook, and for the past 22 years had entertained in various institutions accompanied on the piano by his close friend, Verna MacArthur. Joe was a member of the Patten Pentecostal Church, where he participated in the church worship group each Sunday playing his harmonica. Joe was predeceased by his wife in 1981; three brothers and one sister, Rosario, Abel, Albert and Mary; brother-in-law, Sylvio Bishop; and sister-in-law, Jeannette Corriveau. He is survived by his son, Duane Corriveau and his wife, Carolyn, of Auburn, Mass., and their two children, Daryle and Tracy and her husband, Scott LeBlanc and their daughter, Brooke Elizabeth; his daughter, Roxanne and her husband, Edward Leland, of West Brooks-field, Mass., and their two children, Jessica of West Brooksfield, Mass., and Ryan and his wife, Amy, of Manchester, N.H.; two sisters, Georgianna Corriveau of Houlton and Rose Jones of Presque Isle; two brothers, John and his wife, Ida, of Presque Isle and Leon and his wife, Marilyn, of Limestone; sisters-in-law, Queenie Peterson, Arlene Corriveau and Charlotte Corriveau; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by Verna and the MacArthur children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Patten Pentecostal Church, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Dewitt officiating.
