VAN BUREN – Joseph John R. Cyr, 73, died March 23, 2007, at a Cari-bou hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Hamlin, the son of Remi P. and Alexina (Parent) Cyr. Joseph was educated in local schools, was a graduate of Van Buren Boys High School and Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Presque Isle. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 49, Van Buren. John was employed as a police officer for the Town of Van Buren, worked for the Van Buren Water District and was operator of the Van Buren Waste Water Treatment Plant. He retired from Loring Air Force Base, as a waste water treatment plant operator, in 1992. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1635 and Fourth Degree Assembly, Van Buren. John was a member of the Van Buren Fire Department for many years and was an EMT with the Van Buren Ambulance Service for several years. He also served as a board member of Aroostook Area Agency on Aging, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, served as a board member and past president of Gateway Federal Credit Union, Van Buren, and was also a volunteer tax preparer. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia (Vaillancourt) Cyr of Van Buren; three daughters, Rebecca Bolduc and her husband, Darryl, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Beverley Litchfield and friend, Dave Hebert, of Scarborough and Cynthia Bouchard and her husband, Richard, of Gulfport, Miss.; one son, Jeffrey Cyr and his wife, Chiaki, of Melbourne, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two bro-thers, Albert G. Cyr of Presque Isle and Bernard Cyr of Lady Lake, Fla.; one sister, Angela Owens of Lady Lake, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Margaret Daigle of St. Leonard, New Brunswick. In addition, he will be greatly missed by his large extended family, his friends and his community; and by a special friend, Mona Voisine of Van Buren. Joseph was predeceased by a sister, Marcella Jones of Hampton, Va. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou.
