BUCKSPORT – Joseph “Lester” McGinty, passed away peacefully Sept. 4, 2004, at the Blue Hill hospital, with family by his side. Lester was the son of the late Thomas and Bella (Boyle) McGinty. He was born Sept. 28, 1917, at West Caledonia, Queens County, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his wife, Esther (Boyle) and his brother, Edward. Lester is survived by his children, Marilyn (Alan) Cobb of Ottawa, Ontario and Charles (Patty) McGinty of Bucksport; grandchildren, Christian McGinty and Thomas McGinty of Bucksport and Shannon (Ivan Spahich) Cobb and Erin Cobb of Ottawa, Ontario; his great-granddaughter, Erin McGinty of Bucksport; his brother, Clarence McGinty and sister, Janet McGinty of Caledonia, Nova Scotia; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Lester served in the Royal Canadian Army during World War II and was stationed at bases in Ontario, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, as well as overseas in England, Italy, France and Holland. Upon his return, he worked as a woodsman and laborer and seasonally at the fire tower in West Caledonia. In 1958, he went to work with his brother-in-law, Charlie Boyle (Boyle’s Mobile Service Station) in Bucksport. In 1962, he was joined by his family and took up permanent residence there. In 1976, Lester retired. Lester was an avid card, bingo, lottery and scratch ticket player and a great reader. He enjoyed traveling and had numerous trips to Ontario, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He loved to tease (good naturedly) his relatives and friends. He seldom complained and was always willing to offer a helping hand. He was able to live at home until the summer of 2003. He had been a resident at the Northern Bay Residential Living Center, Penobscot, until he entered the hospital on Sept. 1. Lester will be prayed for at the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bucksport. Burial will be at a later date in Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
