BANGOR – Joseph O. Savage, 67, died April 5, 2005, at his residence, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Bangor, the son of Joseph and Susie (Snow) Savage. Joe graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1955. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He returned to college and graduated from the Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Florida. Joe worked for several years for Northeast Air Lines in Boston and Bangor. He then joined the Air National Guard 101 as a weekend guardsman. Joe worked at the Bangor International Airport as the director of maintenance from 1977 until his retirement in 2002. Joe enjoyed being involved in the men’s hockey program at UMO and his many nights of hockey night in Canada. He was an avid runner of road races in the Bangor area beating many younger runners. He especially found great comfort in helping people as a Hospice volunteer in the greater Bangor area. Joe is survived by his wife, Linda (Burnham) Savage of Bangor; one daughter, Mrs. Tracy O’Neill and her husband, Mark and children, Caroline and Joseph, of Peabody, Mass.; two brothers, Paul Savage of Bangor, Richard and his wife, Betsy Savage, of Glen, N.H.; one sister, Barbara and husband, Bob Lunt, of Surry; several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by a brother, Edwin Savage. Linda and Tracy would like to thank Dr. Philip Brooks and the staff of Cancer Care of Maine, the nurses on Kelly Five at EMMC, who cared for Joe for many years. Friends who wish may make donations to the New Hope Hospice, P.O. Box 757, Holden, ME 04429, in memory of Joe. Friends are invited 7-9 p.m. Friday, to the Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, Catholic chaplain of St. Joe’s Hospital officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
