ELLSWORTH – Joseph P. White, 67, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at a Bar Harbor hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1937, in Harrington, the son of Donald M. and Isabelle (Perry) White. Joe was a graduate of Harrington High School and the University of Maine, where he received a bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in educational administration, and C.A.S. in educational administration. He was employed as principal at the S.S. Nash school in Addison, Headmaster at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Hampden Academy in Hampden, Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, and principal at Hancock Grammar school in Hancock. Joe then went on to serve as assistant superintendent of schools for the City of Ellsworth, and then spent 15 years as Superintendent of M.S.A.D. No. 37 in Washington County, from which he retired. During his retirement, he became an interim teacher, principal, and superintendent in many Hancock and Washington County schools. Joe was a member of Tuscan Lodge No. 106 AF & AM in Addison. He was an amateur Ham Radio operator, and received much enjoyment from reading. Joe is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Davis) White of Ellsworth; two children, Maria White of Ellsworth and John R. White and his wife, Dawn, of Lamoine; a granddaughter, Lauren White of Lamoine; a brother, Robert C. White and his wife, Gwendolyn, of Bangor; many nieces, and a nephew. Friends are invited to visit with the family 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. Private graveside services will be held in the spring at Woodbine Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Joe may be sent to the Joseph P. White Scholarship Fund, care of Union Trust Company, 66 Main Street, Ellsworth, ME 04605, which will benefit a graduate of Narraguagus High School for continuing education.
