BAR HARBOR – Joseph Wells, 76, died Dec. 27, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Burnt Fort, Ga., the son of John Andrew and Mary Elizabeth (Wainwright) Wells. He retired from the Navy as senior chief after 24 years, CSCS. He also retired as foreman at the Army Navy Exchange in Atlanta, Ga. Joseph enjoyed the yearly reunion of Navy USS UMPQUA. Joseph’s favorite pasttime was doing the cooking. He enjoyed his gardening and all of the children, telling jokes and spending time with his Navy brothers. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the V.F.W. of Ellsworth. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Louise (Richardson) Wells; one daughter, Nancy Lee and husband, Stewart Emberson, of Port Orchard, Wash.; two brothers, John David Wells and wife, Genevive, of Woodbury, Ga. and James Andrew Wells of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Geraldine Cheshire of Fort Meyers, Fla.; his granddaughter, Renee and Rick Plant; and one great-granddaughter, Aliza Plant both of Woolwich; sister-in-law, Ethel Loveitt; George Town and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Josephine Wells in 1991; and a sister-in-law, Barbara McCann. Friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29.
