MOLINE, Ill. – Josephine A. “Jo” Merrill, 61, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illinois Campus, Silvis, Ill. Jo (Yeatts) was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Abingdon, Va., daughter of Albert and Margaret (Sims) Yeatts. She married Thomas Matthews, June 13, 1964, in East Moline, Ill. He was killed six months later in a helicopter/jet accident. She was a graduate of United Township High Sch-ool and University of Maine. She had been a banker worked with Bank of America, Bangor. She enjoyed cooking and tending to her organic gardens. She loved her four cats. Survivors include her mother, Margaret Sims of Hampton, Ill.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Mike Bert of Hampton, Ill., Betty and Kevin Casey of Peoria, Ill., and Margaret and Jim Brown of Russell Springs, Ky.; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Janet Yeatts of Carbon Cliff, Ill.; 10 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father and her husband. Per Jo’s wishes, her body will be cremated. Private family services will be held in Maine in the spring.
