FALMOUTH – Josephine L. Ross, 94, of 17 Blueberry Lane, Ocean View, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, as a result of a car accident Aug. 24, 2007. She was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Auburn, daughter of the late Leonard M. and Josephine (Reilly) Brown. She grew up in central Maine and graduated from Cony High School, Augusta. She studied elementary and junior high education at Farmington and Gorham Teachers College and earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary and special education at the University of Maine in Orono and a Masters of Education and C.A.S. with major emphasis on speech, hearing and language. She had taught at ASA Adams Elementary School and in the Bangor school system. As a resident of Orono for 31 years, she was active in the community and a member of the Orono Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Maine Speech and Hearing Assoc., Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Maine Teachers Assoc. She was the founding member of the board of directors for the establishment of Treats Falls House an I.C.F. M.R. in Orono and a supporter of the Multiple Handicap Center, Bangor. After retirement in 1983, she moved to York Harbor along with her husband and eventually to Falmouth. While in York, she was involved with the Old York Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry, St. Christopher’s Church and the Old York Garden Club. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick J. Kyle; her second husband of 57 years, Edward E. Ross; and a sister, Evelyn G. Hackett. She leaves two sons, John Kyle and his wife, Margi, of Yarmouth and Dr. Philip E. Ross of Golden, Colo.; two daughters, Rachel Kyle Milheron and her husband, Robert, of Orono and Margaret Ross of Portland; five grandchildren, two stepgrand-children, five great-grand-children, three great-stepgrand-children, nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass for Mrs. Ross will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at St. Christopher’s Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York.
