NEWPORT – Joy Ann (Sweet) Reed, 68, went home to her Lord, Jan. 1, 2008. She was home with family by her side. Joy was born Aug 20, 1939, in Teaneck, N.J., to William and Eleanor (Davenport) Helbig. Joy’s passions include the Lord, her family and friends, serving others, cooking, and crocheting. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Kenneth Sweet, Gene Sweet and Mark Helbig. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Lee and Lillian White, Gene and Frieda White, Robert and Kristen White Jr.; her daughter, Lisa Matthews; grandchildren, Katie, Jordan, Mackenzie and Jacob; her sister and husband, Leila and Dennis Seavey; her brother and his wife, Stephen and MaryAnn Helbig; her sister and husband, Glenice and Harold Tozier; sister-in-law, Paula Sweet; aunt, Mildred Harrison; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A small intimate memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Joy’s home with Pastor George Finnemore officiating. It was Joy’s request that in lieu of flowers, a small donation in her name be made to her church, Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove St., Newport, ME 04953.
