AVON, Conn. – Joyce A. (Martin) Foy-Veily, 70, beloved wife of George Veily, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at home. She was born June 12, 1937, in Caribou, to the late Felix and Laurette (Cyr) Martin. After completion of her associate’s degree at the University of Maine, Joyce was employed by the U.S. Airforce in Fairbanks, Alaska, for two years, prior to moving to Connecticut. She then received her Bachelor of Arts in business and was an executive office manager for various industries, including Datafind Systems and American Screening. Joyce and George have traveled extensively during their 30 years together. Her passions included her Yorkshire terriers, boating with family all over the New England coast, playing Canasta and gallivanting all over with her dear red hatters. Joyce was the founder and Queen Mum of the Avon Chapter of the Red Hot Mamas. She has served as an inspiration to countless people she has had the good fortune to know. In addition to her husband, she will always be remembered by her dear daughter and son-in-law, Deidre and Todd McGlynn; and her beloved granddaughter, Katrina. Joyce was blessed with George’s three children, Robin Waite, Beth Doyle and Meg Papa; and his five grandchildren, Courtney, William, Connor, Kelsey and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her brother, Lester Martin and his wife, Rita, of Caribou; and sister, Beatrice Guerrette of Pinellas Park, Fla. Her family expresses deep appreciation to her caregivers at St. Francis Hospital Cancer Unit, her special nurse, Mary Hebb, and all involved in her courageous battle. Calling hours will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon, Conn. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon, Conn. Burial will be held at St. Ann Cemetery, Avon, Conn.
