BROOKSVILLE and GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Joyce (Austin) Sams died Dec. 18, 2006, in Gainesville, Fla., after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Blanchard Leon and Edna (Grindle) Austin. She was born and raised in Brooksville. Upon retiring from her job in Miami, Joyce had lived in the Gainesville, Fla., area. She spent her summers at her home in Brooksville, where she operated a small gift shop. Her ashes were scattered locally in Penobscot Bay and a memorial stone was placed at Edgewood Cemetery. By request, there was no funeral. A gathering of remembrance will be held for Joyce 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at the Town House, Brooksville. At the gathering, family and friends are encouraged to share a favorite story about Joyce.
