PRESQUE ISLE – Joyce M. Farnham, 81, wife of the late Norman Farnham, died peacefully Dec. 6, 2003, surrounded by all of her children, five of her six grandchildren and five of her seven great-grandchildren. Joyce was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick, the daughter of Shepherd and Rosa “Daisy” (Carter) Ketch. Joyce grew up in the village of Aroostook Junction, marrying Norman in February 1941, just after he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following Pearl Harbor, she followed Norman to the U.S.A. when he transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps as a commissioned instructor pilot. Following World War II she and Norman came home, operated a family farm and started a family. Later in life she worked at Vahlsing, Converse Rubber, Aroostook Shoe and since 1977 has coordinated the meals-on-wheels service in the Presque Isle area for the Aroostook Agency on Aging. Joyce is survived by daughter, Linda Patterson and husband, Steve, of Presque Isle; sons, Stephen Farnham and wife, Barbara, of Mapleton, Peter of Easton; granddaughters, Deborah Weeks and husband, David, Lisa Baxter and husband, Mark, of Presque Isle; grandsons, Matthew Farnham and wife, Sara, Chris Patterson and wife, Crystal, of Mapleton, Stevie Patterson and wife, Kim, of Presque Isle and Eric Patterson and wife, Kimberly, of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Nathanial and Nichols Weeks, Brandon, Brittany, Mallory and Karina Patterson, and Tyler Farnham; brother, Gerald Ketch from Florida; sisters, Norma True from Connecticut and Marjorie Pottle from Newfoundland; and sister-in-law, Marie Burley from Aroostook Junction. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Norman; and brothers, Bob and Don. Joyce asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be considered to the Aroostook Agency on Aging, P.O. Box 1288, Presque Isle 04769 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Alfred Irving, celebrant.
