ELLSWORTH – Joyce V.S. Blaisdell, 86, died June 23, 2005, in Ellsworth. She was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Bricelyn, Minn., the daughter of Paul Everett Van Slyke and Blanche (Brandon) Van Slyke. Joyce attended grade schools in Bricelyn and Mankato until the age of 13 when her family moved to Wilson, N.C. After graduating from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, she spent three years in the U.S. Navy. Joyce was stationed in Minneapolis, Minn., and worked as a dental hygienist. She attended dental hygiene school at the University of Pennsylvania. While working in Boston, Joyce met and married Kenneth Blaisdell of Ellsworth. Joyce treasured her family and friends and enjoyed meeting people through various volunteer activities. She liked reading, gardening, listening to music, playing tennis and bridge, but she absolutely loved the game of golf. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Kristin G. Blaisdell and partner, Marvin Tarbox, of Hancock and Karen J. Blaisdell and husband, John Van Pelt, of Ellsworth; grandsons, Ethan B. Hunt and Zachary B. Hunt of Ellsworth; sisters, Kathryn Bily of Towson, Md., Lennes Blakely of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Patty Andrews and her husband, “Chick” Andrews, of Wilson, N.C.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, and her sister, Karen Smith. Friends may visit 3-5 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005, with the family at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, June 27 at the First Congregational Church, Ellsworth, with the Rev. James Wood officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
