BLUE HILL – Judith E. (Sweet) Candage of Blue Hill died peacefully Jan. 29, 2005, at the Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot. She was born July 18, 1935, to Eliot S. and Ethola Phillips Sweet. She attended Blue Hill schools and graduated proudly in the class of 1953 from George Stevens Academy. She spent several years working at the Blue Hill Nursery School and in 1971 went to work at the Blue Hill Consolidated School as a teacher aide. In 1978, she became an assistant cook and worked in the kitchen there until her retirement in 2000. While working at school Judy enjoyed watching many area children grow up. Judy’s entire life was filled with music and singing was one of her greatest joys. She was a lifelong member of the Blue Hill Congregational Church and sang in the choir, where, for many years, her mother accompanied on the organ. She was also a soloist at the weddings of many family, friends and community members. Judy became a member of the Bagaduce Chorale in 1976 soon after attending their premiere concert and thoroughly enjoyed the musical experiences and the friendships she gained during her membership in the Chorale. Judy was very proud of her Blue Hill roots and of the Sweet family home on Parker Point where she grew up. After her retirement, she enjoyed playing the piano, long walks around the Point, and stitching and crocheting baby blankets. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Jane Candage Moon and husband, Leslie “Lee,” of Hancock, Margo E. Newman of Ellsworth and Kathleen Candage Murray and husband, James, of Blue Hill; also by her treasured grandchildren, Michael T. and Kevin A. Newman of Ellsworth and Laura A. H. Moon of Hancock; her brother, Harold S. Sweet and his wife, Deborah Lapidus; and her niece, Emily L. Sweet, all of La Jolla, Calif.; her cousins, Margo Wooster Hope of Pemaquid, Theodore Wooster of Waldoboro, Nancy Phillips Stubbs of Bucksport and Robert Phillips of Wayne; and many other cousins who were also very dear to her. She was predeceased by her beloved parents and her aunts and uncles of whom she was very fond. A funeral service for Judy will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Blue Hill Congregational Church. Donations in Judy’s memory can be made to the Blue Hill Congregational Church Music Fund, P.O. Box 444, Blue Hill or to the Blue Hill Consolidated School Library, 60 High St., Blue Hill, ME 04614. Arrangements are under the care of Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 141 South Street, Blue Hill.
