VASSALBORO – Julia L. Browne, 64, died unexpectedly July 22, 2008, at Maine General Medical Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1944, in Melrose, Mass., daughter of the late Robert S. Love and Jeanette Allen Love. Julie was a graduate of Melrose High School and the University of Maine, receiving bachelor degrees in English and landscape architecture. She was a member of the Pi Phi sorority. Julie was co-owner/operator of Natanis Golf Course, Vassalboro and Lakewood Golf Course, Madison. She was a longtime member of Riverside Congregational Church during which she was an officer of the Women’s Fellowship. She was also an officer for Vassalboro Historical Society, a Windsor Fair trustee and a founding member of Vassalboro Business Association. A love of gardening led her to establish her business, Lady’s Slipper Landscapes. Julie was also a member of Augusta Garden Club. Mrs. Browne was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Browne Sr.; and a sister, Leslie A. Costello. She is survived by her two sons, Robert C. Browne Jr. and his wife, Kimberley, and Allen P. Browne and his wife, Susan, all of Vassalboro; a sister, Melanie Gillick and her husband, Ed, of Londonderry, N.H.; three grandsons, many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, all of whom she greatly loved. There will be no hours of visitation. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Riverside Congregational Church, Vassalboro, with the Rev. Bud Merkins officiating. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie’s memory may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, P.O. Box 8730, Portland, ME 04104. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 983 Ridge Road, Route 32, Windsor.
