SEARSMONT and LINCOLNVILLE – Julie Bea (Dutch) Marriner, 54, beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away July 5, 2007, after a courageous 27-month battle with liver cancer. Her undying optimism and determination to live each day to its fullest and set goals looking ahead to reach, was an inspiration to all who knew her, and so many of us were able to share in those dreams becoming a reality. Never did she complain during the many months of chemotherapy or any other medical procedures she endured. Always with a smile on her face and ready with her quick and infectious wit, she was more concerned about the needs of those around her than those for herself. Her life touched so many people from all walks of life, and she had so many special friends. Julie loved sports of all kinds and played on various teams such as volleyball, softball, basketball, swimming, cheerleading and golf, in which she took great pleasure in being a member of the Northport Golf Club, and was also the president of the ladies group. Julie took pride in mowing her lawn in Searsmont, as well as at their camp on Pitcher Pond, where she found no greater joy than spending time with many family and friends. She will always be remembered for the uncountable batches of chocolate chip cookies she provided to many sports teams at Belfast Area High School throughout her son and daughters, nieces, nephews and many others’ sports careers. Julie loved cooking and decorating cakes for all occasions that were not only beautiful, but the best tasting too. She loved to organize family functions with her family, as well as her husband, Mike’s and always brought more food and snacks than we could eat. Julie was a graduate of Belfast Area High School in 1971 and a graduate of Bernard’s School of Hairdressing, Lewiston, after finishing one year at University of Maine – Presque Isle. She worked as a hairdresser in Belfast providing service and care to her clients for more than 30 years. She had so much enthusiasm for her job, and each and every one became like family to her. Julie was predeceased by her father, Dryden C. Dutch; and special grandparents, that she admired. Surviving are her mother, Norma H. Dutch and special friend, Vaughn Ellis, of Belfast; her loving husband of 34 years, Michael A. Marriner of Lincolnville; a daughter, Melissa and her husband, Travis Veilleux; along with her three special grandsons, Alex, Tanner and Eli of Searsmont; a son, Daniel M. Marriner and wife, Jaime, of Searsmont; two brothers, Larry Dutch and friend, Carrie and Jeffery J. Dutch, O.D. and his wife, Mary; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held 4-6 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. A celebration of Julie’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Belfast Area High School gymnasium. Those who wish may make donations in Julie’s memory to Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, P.O. Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915 or The Julie Bea Dutch Marriner Scholarship Fund, care of RoAnn Blood, 58 Sherman Road, Liberty, ME 04949.
