SEAL COVE – June E. Thompson, 87, went home to be with the Lord, Oct. 29, 2006, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Frenchboro, the daughter of Grandville “Sim” and Violet (Thurlow) Davis. June worked at the William Underwood Co., Bass Harbor for 20 years and received the Fastest Packer Award. She also worked as a cook for several different summer families while working for the Town of Tremont as town clerk for 19 years. June was a notary public and justice of the peace and performed marriages for more than 30 years. She was also a police commissioner for Tremont. During her retirement and right up until her death, June enjoyed running a china shop called June’s Antique Fine China, for more than 15 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Mount Desert Island and an active member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Tremont. June is survived by one son, Michael M. Dawes and wife, Janet, of China; two daughters, Marilyee B. Dowling of Wells and Spring H. Harkins and her significant other, Mark Lurvey, of Franklin; one sister, Thelma and husband, Charles Lemae, of Versailles, Mo.; her beloved niece, Sharon English and significant other, Phil Collins; five grandchildren, Cathe Cochran of Fairfield, Michael Corson of Madison, William Dawes of Merrimack, N.H., Rolla T. Dowling of Wells and Blake Roberson of Franklin; five great-grandchildren, Jodi, Jessica, Jordan, Alex and Corey; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Rolla Henry Thompson Nov. 4, 2004. Services of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, with the Rev. David Underwood and the Rev. Tom Dow officiating. Interment will be at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Contributions in June’s memory may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, care of Nadine Goodwin, 18 Webster Lane, Bernard, ME 04612.
