LUBEC – Katherine “Kay” A. Hickey, 83, passed away peacefully March 27, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born May 2, 1923, in Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of the late Austin D. and Agnes (Dwyer) McGrath. Kay was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec. She was also an avid lover of animals and enjoyed playing bingo. Kay is survived by her seven brothers and sisters, Florence Crocker and husband, Dale, of Connecticut, Fergus McGrath and wife, Elizabeth, of Massachusetts, Leonard McGrath and wife, Nancy, of Florida, Loretta Higgins and husband, Andrew, Justin McGrath and wife, Hilda, and Joseph McGrath and wife, Marie, all of Newfoundland, Canada, and Ellen McCurdy and husband, Bernard, of Lubec; stepson, Jackie Hickey and companion, Jeanie, of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and beloved cats, Barbie and Jersey. She was predeceased by a stepson, Gerard Hickey. The family thanks the staff at Oceanview Nursing Home, Dr. Naing, Jim, and the staff at Downeast Community Hospital, for the care given to Kay. Visiting hours will take place 2-4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated immediately after. Burial will take place 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover, N.H. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P.O. Box 63, Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Homes, Machias.
