PEMBROKE – Kathleen Elizabeth Tarbell, 100, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Downeast Community Hospital, Machias. Kathleen was born June 21, 1907, in Pembroke, daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Summerton) Barnes. She graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1925 and from Washington State Normal School. After college, Kathleen married Waldo M. Tarbell, April 9, 1927, in Calais. They resided in Meddybemps for two years before relocating to Pembroke, where they have lived ever since. For many years, Kathleen worked as a sardine packer for various local sardine factories. She was a devoted member of Ironworks Methodist Church, where she served on many committees. Kathleen was predeceased by two sisters, Parthenia Allen and Florence Johnson; two brothers, Frank and Lansing Barnes; and two half brothers, James and Carroll Barnes. Surviving are her loving husband of more than 80 years, Waldo Tarbell; two children, Elliott Tarbell and wife, Joyce, of Marshfield and Helen Brown of Pembroke; two sisters, Estella Johnson of Baileyville and Marguerite Mains of Pembroke; six grandchildren, Brian and Wayne Tarbell, Cathy Farren, Colleen Smith, Cheryl Curtis and John Brown; 12 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Liberty Hill Road, Pembroke. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating. Burial will be after at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke.
