BRADLEY – Kathleen “Kay” Crosby McCannell, 85, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at an Orono nursing facility. She was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Princeton Plantation, a daughter of the late Lula and Lester Crosby. Kay was a life-long supporter of the Stillwater Federated Church and a member of their Annie Mathew’s Women’s Society and Couple’s Club. She retired from the Stillwater United States Post Office in 1980. Kay was born a child of the 1920’s, one of 13 brothers and sisters, who knew the hard scrabble, hand me down life, growing up on a farm. She married and started her new life with Oscar in the 1930’s. Together they raised their family in Stillwater during the 1950’s and 1960’s, suffered great personal loss in 1971, but put the struggle behind them with the birth of many grandchildren in the 1980’s. She and Oscar enjoyed their retirement years together with their extended family, until he passed on in 1994 in their 56th year of marriage. Her remaining years were spent comfortably at the family home in Bradley with her close friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren close by. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Maryann Sibley, the staff at the Orono Commons and especially to Kay’s granddaughter Shannon Coiley for her devoted attention to “Grammy” during these last few months. She is survived by her children, Ronald and wife, Carol, of Milford, Terrance and wife, Louise, of Pittsfield and Vanessa Caron of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan, John, Aaron and wife, Andrea, Christy and husband, Mike, Gavin, Jared and wife, Melisa, Shane and wife, Shonna, Stacy and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Audrey, Tyler, Ava and Connor; siblings, Beula Lyons, Ellsworth Crosby, Donald and wife, Mary Crosby, Phillip and wife, Edith Crosby, Virginia and husband, Raymond Braun, and Roger and wife, Ruth Crosby; and many nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Oscar; daughter, Sharon; grandson, Jeffrey; her parents, three sisters and three brothers. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Stillwater Federated Church, Bennoch Road, Stillwater, with the Rev. Howard Benson officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the fellowship area by the Annie Mathew’s Women’s Society. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s memory to the Stillwater Federated Church, P.O. Box 386, Stillwater, ME 04489.
