WASHBURN – Keith Nelson “Sid” Humphrey, 85, quietly departed our world April 20, 2005, at a Bangor hospital with his daughters at his side. He was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Washburn to Violet Sperry and William Humphrey. He was brought up in Washburn by his grandparents, Leslie and Linnie Sperry. Keith was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country in the European theatre as a staff sergeant during World War II. He married Mary Frances Lynch April 12, 1952, and settled in Washburn to raise his family. He retired from a career as a construction foreman and finish carpenter in 1983. Many buildings across Aroostook county and beyond knew his skills. He was a member of the Oscar Dow American Legion Post No. 48 in Washburn. A first-class athlete in his youth, Keith was a lifelong Redsox and Celtics fan, and enjoyed attending games at local schools as well. He took much pleasure in “teasing,” gardening, fishing, family trips and outings, “the camp” at Cross Lake, his granddaughters, and in following world affairs. An important part of his retirement years were his daily visits to Mike’s Donut Shop and Griffins One Stop. Keith was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years in June of 2004, as well as brother, Fred Humphrey; sisters, Blanche Langley, Dora Patten and Myrtle Norsworthy; and also by several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
