BANGOR and PATTEN -Kathleen Rogers, 86, of Bangor and Patten, died Oct. 3, 2004. She was born, Oct. 2, 1918, in Mt. Chase, to James Leigh and Alice (Hatt) McKenney. Kathleen lived most of her life in Patten and graduated from Patten Academy in 1935. She attended Castine normal school for a period before her marriage to Robert Rogers. Active in her community prior to her move to Bangor in 1985, Kathleen was notably a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Rockabema Snow Rangers. She became a member of the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church as a young woman. For many years Kathleen worked for the Katahdin Trust Co.; for two years she served as Patten’s first woman town manager. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Lucy Higgins; and a brother, Leland McKenney. She is survived by a half sister, Freda Hall Stubbs of Sherman; daughters, Judith R. Garfunkel of Boston, Mass., and Glenda R. McNally of Bangor; a son, James Rogers of Augusta; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 24, at the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church in Patten, with the Rev. Thomas Chandler officiating. Friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments with the family following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the humane society of Bangor at 6938 Mt. Hope Ave. or to the Veteran’s Memorial Library, Main St., Patten, an institution which served as a source of comfort and joy to Kathleen during her childhood and beyond.
