HAMPDEN – Robert C. Neal Sr., 63, husband of Bessie (Sawyer) Neal, passed away Oct. 15, 2004, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1941, in Newport, the son of Donald A. and Mildred (Bates) Neal. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a longtime Hampden resident and worked for Evans Hampden Shoe Company for 31 years. Robert later went on to work for several other shoe manufacturing companies. He was past secretary, and past vice president of the New England Shoe Association. Robert enjoyed his computer, sports, especially baseball and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend, who devoted to his family. He especially enjoyed, and was proud of his only grandchild, Amanda York who he affectionately called “Amanda Panda”. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Bessie of Hampden; two daughters, Tammy J. York and her husband, Stephen, of Milford and Brenda E. Quimby of Hampden; one son, Robert C. Neal Jr. of Richmond; one brother, James Neal and his wife, Rella, of Kenduskeag; and his granddaughter, Amanda York, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Richard and David Neal. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held, 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating.
