ORONO – Kathryn H. Hamilton, died at a local hospital, Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Kathryn was born April 6, 1929, in Lakewood, Ohio, the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth Hornickel. She was raised in Monongahela, Pa. and attended public schools there. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and was a graduate of Kent State University. Upon graduating from Kent State, she attended Yale University School of Nursing in New Haven, Conn. Following graduation from Yale she worked at hospitals in Seattle, Wash., Cleveland, Ohio and Washington, Pa. She taught in the University of Maine School of Nursing and at Bangor Community College. She was a member of the Church of Universal Fellowship, having served on the Board of Trustees and on the Board of Deacons. She was an avid fan of the Maine Black Bear Hockey program. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wayne at home in Orono; and son, Robert of Boise, Idaho. Also surviving are two brothers, Jack Hornickel and wife, Polly, of Hudson, Ohio, Robert Hornickel and wife, Connie, of Washington, Pa., along with two nieces and two nephews. In keeping with Kathryn’s wishes, graveside services will be private.
