ISLAND FALLS. – Kenneth E. Schmidt, 86, died July 13, 2004, at Bangor. He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Maunch Chunk, Pa., the son of Edwin and Martha (Kipp) Schmidt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and also was a Merchant Marine. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 22 in Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edna (Holmes) Schmidt; four sons, John and his wife, Pat Schmidt, and Jesse Schmidt, all of Island Falls, Robert Schmidt of Missouri and Jim and his wife, Claudia Schmidt of Burton, Mich.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. James Flye officiating. Interment will be in Island Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Island Falls United Baptist Church, Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
