BANGOR – Kenneth Everett Growe, 79, died Aug. 19, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Canton, N.Y. Kenneth was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 as a sergeant, aerial gunner, 880th squadron, 383rd bomb group, stationed in Foggia, Italy. He was a graduate of Ft. Hays State University (Hays, Kansas), Class of 1951. Kenneth holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany. He served in the Soil Conservation Service (USDA) for 25 years. Kenneth was the Deputy State Conservationist in Maine for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1981. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Bangor. Kenneth was also a member of the Knights of Columbus; Elks Lodge No. 244, Bangor; Society of Retired Soil Conservationists; Aerial Gunner’s Association and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Foundation. Ken was an avid gardener, reader, traveler and lifelong Yankee fan who took particular delight in the annual demise of the Red Sox. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marilynn Barbara (Orth) Growe; his son, Gary Michael Growe and his wife, Cynthia; his son, Douglas Kenneth Growe and his wife, Lorrie and grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah; his son, Charles Christopher Growe and grandchildren, Elijah and Sabrina; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kenneth was predeceased by his mother, Ethyl Growe Louise; father, Earl Growe; sister, Lorraine (Growe) Munger; brother, Ivan Growe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, celebrant. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Friday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. Kenneth was a sponsor of Save The Children.
