PORTLAND – Everett V. Kelley, 89, of 75 State St., formerly of Maine Avenue, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born May 18, 1915, in Portland, a son of William and Nellie Flaherty Kelley. Mr. Kelley was raised in the Gorham’s Corner area of Portland, and attended local schools, where he graduated from Portland High School. Mr. Kelley was first employed for several years by the Portland Press Herald. During World War II, he worked at the South Portland Shipyards building Liberty ships. Following the war, he went to work for the A & P Bakery in Portland. He worked there until its closing, and then moved to Springfield, Mass., where he continued to work for the A & P. Following retirement, he returned to Portland. Mr. Kelley was a member of the Irish-American Club, and was a longtime member of the Riverside Golf Assn. in Portland. He was also a member of the Baker’s and Confectionery Union. Mr. Kelley was a communicant of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Murphy Kelley, who died on Aug. 16, 1999. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Edward Kelley, John Kelley, and William Kelley. Surviving are two sons and their spouses, John “Jack” Kelley and his wife, Nancy, of Nashua, N.H., and Dr. Joseph Kelley and his wife, Alice, of Orono; a sister, Mary Robinson of Westminster, Mass.; a brother, Thomas Kelley and his wife, Patricia, of Westbrook; five grandchildren, Michael Kelley, Donald Kelley, Samuel Kelley, Kate Kelley, and Taylor Kelley; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Kelley, Quinn Kelley, and Arwyn Kelley. Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery.
