ELLSWORTH – Kenneth N. Clark, 90, passed away peacefully June 14, 2008, at his home of many years, doing what he enjoyed most, sitting in his favorite chair and reading the newspaper. His home on West Maple Street, Ellsworth, has always been a place to gather, garden, eat, visit and celebrate. His devotion as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will never be forgotten. His love, affection and kindness will always remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. After graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1935, he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II, being honorably discharged as staff sergeant, October 1945. You could always hear a war story or he would share a valuable momentum he brought back home from the various foreign countries he visited. Always standing true to the country he served, he continually searched for products that were made in the USA. Ken worked for New England Telephone Co., for 32 years, retiring from Verizon in 1976. Not being able to sit after retirement, he worked part time at Doug’s Shop ‘n Save, Ellsworth. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Telephone Pioneers, Lygonia Masonic Lodge No. 40, AF & AM, VFW No. 109 and American Legion Post No. 63. Ken and his wife, Blanche, spent many years on Patten Pond, Surry, at their camp, the Twin Gables; many family and friends shared fond memories, recreation, laughs, fish tales, games and all around memories there. His many hobbies included rug hooking, bird watching, reading the newspaper, walks at Lowes, Mardens and Home Depot, and gardening. His annual garden was his all time passion. If you helped him, you had to go by the “garden map.” This year he was unable to plant his garden, so some of his family members did it for him. We were told we planted the seeds too close, too many rows and questioned whether we even read the directions. Maybe this year the garden will flourish! His quick wit, dry sense of humor and jokes were always something you could count on. Ken is survived by his daughter, Beverly J. Long and her husband, Perry, of Surry; his grandchildren, Alison Cote and her husband, Scott, of Otis, and their children, Seth, Hunter and Shelby; Cristin Anderson-Gardner and her husband, Troy, of Ellsworth, and their children, Silas and Ashton; Kathryn Long of Saco and Kimberly Fitch of Ellsworth; son-in-law, Allen Fitch; and a very special neighbor, Belinda Harris, who was always there for him. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Blanche Schoppe Clark, who he truly missed and visited with daily at the cemetery. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Fitch, who passed unexpectedly in 2003, at the age of 56; and an infant daughter, Nancy Marie in 1954. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Gary Dill officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. If friends desire they may make contributions in Ken’s memory for a special fund that will be given to various charitable organizations that he shared interests and involvements, care of Union Trust Bank. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com. Having a place to go is home, having someone to love is family, having both is a blessing “we have been blessed!”
