DOVER-FOXCROFT – I was born Jan. 6, 1939, at home, the third child of three children born to George and Bertha Ellen (Thurston) Philbrook. My education was received through the Dover-Foxcroft educational system. While a sophomore at Foxcroft Academy, I left school along with a number of classmates and joined the Army National Guard. Several years later, I went on to receive my GED through Foxcroft Academy in 1992, along with my loving wife. In 1959 I married Sonja Inez Strom, who blessed me with four wonderful children. My working career varied greatly from working in the woods and working in the lumber mills to long haul trucking. For seven years I worked at the Dover-Foxcroft Water District, 19 years for the town of Dover-Foxcroft, nine years at Barrett Paving and then I retired. After retirement, I went on to work for Mark Nutter, managing his gravel pit along with his son, Shane Nutter, who became very special to me. My hobbies were cross-country skiing, oil painting and working in my garden. In addition to my parents, I was predeceased by my sister, Carolyn Mae Philbrook. I now leave behind my loving wife of 48 years, Sonja; four children, Darlene Nye and her husband, Gary, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., Raymond Philbrook of Dover-Foxcroft, Lynn Osborn and her husband, Darren, of Oxford, Ala., and Bonnie Allen and her husband, Dennis, of Dover- Foxcroft; one brother, Edward and his wife, Charlene, of Monson; my loving grandchildren, Seth Dow, Andrea and Sierra Nye, Samantha and Alexandra “Lexi” Philbrook and Austin Osborn; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also special to me was the entire McLeish family. I worshiped my Lord and Savior with my family at the Church of the Nazarene, Dover-Foxcroft. A memorial service for Lennie, who died June 15, 2008, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Robert Herring officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the memorial service. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Lenwood Philbrook may be made to Dover-Foxcroft Church of the Nazarene, attention: Sandra Cookson, treasurer, P.O. Box 306, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
