MILLINOCKET and PRINCETON Kenneth R. Savage, 88, passed away peacefully, May 4, 2004, at his home, after a long illness. He was born July 1, 1915, in Carthage, the son of Raymond Parker and Delia Margaret (Rand) Savage. He attended Dixfield schools, graduating in 1930 at the age of 15, and then attended Kent’s Hill School. Ken excelled as a scholar and an athlete, playing baseball, football and ice hockey. He also played in the short-lived roller skate basketball league in western Maine. After his education, Ken played right wing for the Edmunston Merchants professional hockey club in Edmunston, New Brunswick, for two years. Kenneth married Clydene Legacy on July 21, 1938. From 1941-1945, they lived in Princeton, Hampden, Eastport, Caribou, Ellsworth Falls, Mattawamkeag, Millinocket and Portland, where he worked building airports during World War II. They moved back to Princeton in 1945, where he and Clydene founded, owned and operated the Legacy and Savage Ford dealership from 1945-1980. They also operated real estate and insurance businesses and built and operated the Log House Sporting Camps from 1945-1970. He was the first Polaris snowmobile dealer in Maine. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, holding a Maine Registered Guide License for many years, and also enjoyed boating, skiing and snowsledding. He particularly enjoyed fly-fishing for Atlantic salmon, in the valley of the Miramachi, in New Brunswick. Among his other talents, he was a gifted storyteller. He was a member of the Princeton Rod and Gun Club, and was a 50-year member of Lewey’s Island Lodge, AF & AM of Princeton. Above all else, Kenneth was a very loving and supportive husband and father. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia S. Ulman and her husband, Oscar, of Millinocket, and Judith S. Webber and her husband, Gary, of Trenton; four granddaughters, Pamela Farquhar and her husband, Paul, Janelle Ulman, Kristen Webber and Brianna Webber; two great-grandchildren, Sidney Farquhar and Benjamin Farquhar. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the Princeton Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dana Kadey officiating. Interment will be in the Princeton Cemetery.
