CARMEL – Kristine Therese Cousins Butterfield, 43, died Oct. 2, 2006, surrounded by family at home, after a brief second battle with melanoma. She was born Sept. 9, 1943, in Bangor, the daughter of Robert and Sharon (Albert) Cousins. Kristine was a graduate of Hermon High School and the University of Maine, receiving her degree in dental hygiene. She worked at numerous dental practices and was employed at Stillwater Dental and University of Maine – Augusta. Kristine was a member of the Carmel Congregational Church, where she was involved with many activities including teaching Sunday school, treasurer and the church fair. One of Kristine’s greatest loves was spending time at her lakeside cottage in Island Falls. She loved kayaking and spending time with family and camp friends from “The Lane.” Kristine loved spending time with her cats, Max and Heidi. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughter exploring new places. Kristine was an avid cook and loved sharing her cuisine with others. Kristine was a devoted mother to her daughter, Brooke, who was the light of her life. She wanted to thank Doris’ and Pop for the special care they gave Brooke during her preschool years. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 20 years, Mark Butterfield of Carmel; her daughter, Brooke Butterfield of Carmel; a sister, Kellie Stanhope and husband, Scott, of Hampden; two brothers, Craig Cousins of Hermon and Keith Cousins and wife, Shannon, of Levant; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Kristine’s life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington. The family invites relatives and friends to conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall after the service. Kristine requested that gifts in her memory be made to a scholarship fund for Brooke, care of Bank of America, 1176 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
