LYNCHBURG, Va. – Larry Lewellyn Brackett, 62, the husband of Deborah J. Brackett, formerly of Maine, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born Nov. 14, 1944, in Westbrook, he was a son of the late Harry L. and Lena Wentworth Brackett Colby. Larry had a talent and passion for drawing pictures and enjoyed sharing them with others. He loved fishing and relaxing at the Peaks of Otter. He liked to travel and see new places and thoroughly enjoyed his almost 40-year career as a truck driver. In his younger years, he loved to ride motorcycles. In later years, he found enjoyment in his daily trips to McDonalds for a cup of coffee and conversation. Larry was a very giving, generous and unselfish person, often helping others in need. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed and will be in our hearts forever. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Debbie Brackett; and two sisters, Judy Gibson and Madeline Quinlin. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by five biological children and five stepchildren, Melody Proffitt and her husband, Lee, of Lynchburg, Va., Tammy Heinecke and her husband, Ron, of South Montville, Lori Kearin of Phoenix, Diana Jackowitz and her husband, Russell, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Larry Brackett Jr. of Green Bay, Wis., Kellie Lastage of Southern Maine, Angela Anderson of Belfast and Joanna, Nanci and Katie Hire, all of Amherst; one brother, Russell Brackett and his wife, Susan, of Gorham; two sisters, Sylvia Brackett of Portland and Betty Lewis of Windham. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and six great-grand-children. The family would like to extend a warm thanks to Drs. Halpin and Driskill, and their staff, for their kindness and support during Larry’s battle with cancer. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Tree of Life Ministries, Lynchburg, Va., by Pastor J. Mike Dodson. A memorial service will also be held in late June in Liberty.
