UPPER DARBY, Pa. – Laura B. Helfrich, 43, died June 24, 2006, in Upper Darby, Pa., after a gallant fight against cancer. She was the daughter of Harry and Nancy Helfrich of Naples, Fla. She grew up in Presque Isle and attended the public schools there and finished her high school years at Gould Academy in Bethel. She graduated from Oberlin College, and after a year at Katherine Gibbs, she started work for SIAM; Society of Applied Mathematics, as an editor. Although self taught, she became competent on computers and for the past several years has served SIAM as their web master. She was honored this past winter as a 20-year employee. She was predeceased by her brother, Dana Helfrich. She is survived by her parents, her sister, Heather Pritchett of Millville, N.J.; her brother, George Helfrich of Cornville, Ariz.; a niece and several nephews.
