MACHIASPORT – Laura F. Holmes went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband June 11, 2008. She was born Aug. 2, 1922, in the Kennebec District of Machias, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Foss. Laura was a wonderful, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved to cook, sing and enjoy the company of her family, and attending church at Larrabee Baptist Church, where she had been a member for many years. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Capt. William Holmes Sr., in October 2005; by sisters, Esther Richards and Helen Wood; and brothers, Thomas and Fred. She is survived by her four children, William Jr. and wife, Judy, of Machiasport, Dan and wife, Lois, of Cutler, Laurie and husband, Fred Stone, of Whitefield and Mary and husband, Ed Donaghy, of Machiasport; a sister, Susan Hawkins; brothers, Charles, Lester and James Foss; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; special brother-in-law, Cyrus Holmes and wife, Carleen, of Warren; and also special friend, Helen Andrews, whose visits Laura looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Larrabee Baptist Church, Route 92, Machiasport, with Pastor Herb McLean and Tony Maker officiating.
