LIMESTONE – Laversa L. Collins, 66, wife of the late Lloyd E. Collins, died Saturday evening, Feb. 19, 2005, at her Limestone residence, after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 16, 1938, at Limestone, the daughter of Cyrus and Madeline (Hamilton) Montgomery. She was married to Lloyd E. Collins April 9, 1954, was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1956, and was a member of the American Legion O’Bar-Phair Post No. 127 Ladies Auxiliary. She had been employed for 10 years at the former Loring Air Force Base Hospital and worked as a medical aide for 20 years at the St. Onge Nursing Home, and the Limestone Manor. Mrs. Collins will be remembered as a compassionate caring person to all who knew her, especially the staff and residents at the Limestone Manor and the Loring AFB hospital. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and remarkable patience. She had “earned her stripes’, a wife of a serviceman, diligently completing her tasks associated with that position. Laversa was a huge fan of John Wayne and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren who will remember her as their best friend, she was the light of their lives. She will also be fondly remembered by her many friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Sept. 12, 2004; one brother, Hobert Montgomery; and one sister, Faye Phillips. Mrs. Collins is survived by two sons, John Collins of Caswell, Edward Collins of Monroe, Wash.; three daughters, Peggy Barnes and her husband, Thomas, of Limestone, Betty Shaw of South China, Judy Peterson and her husband, Greg, of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey “Buck” and Tammy Montgomery, of Limestone; two sisters, Edna O’Bar of Limestone, Shirley Degeis of Bedford, Mass.; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A service of committal will be conducted at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, later in the spring with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mrs. Collins to the Pulmonary Cardiac Rehabilitation, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
