MACHIAS – Lawrence L. Dorr, 86, of Marshfield, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Je-sus Christ, July 29, 2007. He was born April 22, 1921, in Harrington, the son of Clarence and Mabel (Lawrence) Dorr. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea. On Oct. 27, 1946, he married Evelyn Harrington. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. He graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a master’s degree in education. Lawrence taught in several schools and was the principal of schools in Princeton, Strong and Lubec. He and his wife were owners of Ocean View Nursing Home, Lubec, before retiring to Machias. Lawrence was a member of Machias Valley Baptist Church, Machias, serving as an elder, deacon and school board member. He was also a director of Bar Harbor Bank and Trust for 25 years. He enjoyed carpentry and built Helen’s Restaurant, Machias Motor Inn, and numerous houses and projects for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, who was a faithful caregiver; three daughters, Joan Carter and husband, Robert, of Marshfield, Joyce Jamison and husband, Allan, of Ellsworth and Judy Hanscom and husband, Gary, of Machias; and a brother, Richard Dorr of Ellsworth. He was a loving Granky to grandchildren, David and Julie Barker, Larry and Terri Barker, Shane and Lori Barker, Wayde and Toni Carter, Krisy and Jeffrey Currier, Jamie and Tana Jamison, Mark and Richelle Jamison, Todd Jamison and Nichole Jellison. He also leaves 21 great-grand-children, who loved Granky D.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Merrill; a sister, Ruthelen Willey; two grandchildren, Melissa Carter and P. J. Dority. A time of fellowship for family and friends will be held noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Machias Valley Baptist Church in the gym. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Dr. Chris Mace and Pastor John Sprague officiating. Burial will be after the service at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cherryfield.
