ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla., BANGOR and NASHUA, N.H. – Lawrence William Warren, 88, died Oct. 9, 2007, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, N.H. He was born March 9, 1919, in Lincoln, the son of Wallace W. and Della (Kneeland) Warren. In 1937, he graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Becker College, Worcester, Mass. He worked in the accounting department of American Steel & Wire Co., Worcester, prior to World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Coastguard, Navy, Jan. 13, 1942. He served on the U.S. Coastland Cutter Northland for three years in the North Atlantic, Greenland, Iceland and Norway. He spent the last two years of his enlistment at the Ammunition Depot, Castine. Larry owned and operated a new car business in Lincoln from 1946 through 1951. In 1951, he was recalled into the Navy and served on the Destroyer Escort McCafferty for two years during the Korean War. He spent the last 10 years of active duty at the U.S. Navy Training Center, Bangor. Larry owned and operated an auto leasing car business, used car business and owned residential apartment buildings. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Horeb Lodge No. 93, Lincoln. He spent several years as the advancement chairman in the Penobscot District of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Parks Pond, Eddington, playing tennis and watching the Boston Red Sox. Since 1981, he spent his winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. He was a member of the Hammond Street Congregational Church U.C.C. and an associate member of the First Congregational Church of Zephyrhills, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 47 years, Frances (Elliott) Warren; his brother, Lloyd Warren; and sisters, Thelma Nordin-Smith and Vera Shedd. He is survived by his longtime companion, Carolyn L. Phinney of Nashua, N.H.; sister-in-law, Shirley Warren of Millinocket; niece, Janet Edwards of Hampton, N.H.; nephews, Robert Nordin and his wife, Virginia, of Osterville, Mass., Paul Shedd and his wife, Shelly, of Enfield, Roger Shedd and his wife, Barbara of Brownville, Dwight Shedd and his wife, Gale, of Brunswick, Wallace Warren and David Warren of North Carolina; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by his special niece, Mary Jean Cronkite; and two special great-nieces, Carrie Stafford and Amy Freeman. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Allen Doty, pastor of the Hammond Street Congregational Church, officiating. Friends may call noon Monday until time of service. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
