WASHBURN – Lendal P. Mills Sr., 80, died Oct. 27, 2007, at his residence. He was born May 2, 1927, in Caribou, the son of Leigh and Anna (Stitham) Mills. He was a graduate of Washburn High School, Class of 1944. Lendal was a farmer in the local area for 50 years, starting his freshman year in high school. He attended all boys and girls basketball games in Washburn, where he received the fan of the year in 1998 and was king of August Festival in 1999. He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing at Square Lake, where he took 1st and 2nd place in the fishing derby. He married Edwyna (Stitham) Mills, Aug. 24, 1978. Surviving in addition to his wife, Edwyna of Washburn, are two sons, Lendal P. Mills Jr. and Philip Mills, both of Washburn; four daughters, Lynn Morales and her husband, Jim, of Mary Ester, Fla., Martha Bouchey and her husband, Rodney, of Washburn, Norine Bishop and her husband, Michael, of Sidney and Lorna Redmond and her husband, James, of Navarre, Fla.; one brother, Ronald Pelkey of Texas; one sister, Arlyne Bailey of Quincy, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, several great-grand-children; his stepchildren, Trudy Bither of Topsham, Teddie Bither, Peggy Longstaff and Jane Clark, all of Houlton, Andy Bither of Portland and Eddie Bither of Washburn. He was predeceased by a brother, Graydon Mills; and a sister, Inez Mills. Friends may call at 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, from the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Blakney, pastor of Washburn Pentecostal Church, officiating.
