BANGOR – Leola Barbara (Weston) Colburn, 94, wife of the late Edwin L. Colburn, died April 2, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare center. She was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Bangor, the daughter of Albert and Christine (Matson) Weston. Leola had been a sales person and buyer at the Bangor Furniture Co., for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Bangor; a volunteer at the Eastern Maine Medical Center and a corporator of the Phillips-Strickland House. She was also a member of the Sunshine Club for Children. Leola and her late husband, Eddie, enjoyed hunting, fishing, entertaining at their cottage at Beech Hill Pond and many Masonic and Shrine trips. Surviving are three children, James “Jim” Axelsen and his wife, Virginia, of Roanoke, Va., Edwin W. Colburn and his wife, Faith, of Otis, Carolyn Eaton and her husband, Dwight, of Brooksville; eight grandchildren, Millie, Karen, Walter, Traeger, Tina, Bethany, Catherine, and David; several great-grandchildren; a special niece, Barbara Dwyer and grand niece, Ann Patterson, both of Otis; other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Freda Foley, Mildred Axelsen, Inez Paul, and Mary Hamilton; four brothers, Charles, Waldo, Harold, and George Weston. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service Tuesday.
