ELLSWORTH and GOULDSBORO – Leona G. White, 84, wife of the late Willis N. White Sr., died July 21, 2007, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Jones-port, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Smith) Garnett. Leona grew up in Jonesport attending Jonesport Schools, graduating in the Class of 1941. She married her beloved husband, Willis, April 11, 1942, in Jonesport. Leona retired from Stinson Canning Co., Prospect Harbor, where she worked for many years. While there she made close and lasting friends. Upon their retirement, they relocated to Ellsworth to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Leona was a member of Knights of Pythias; Halcyon Temple No. 56, Gouldsboro; SOS Club, Gouldsboro; and Senior Citizens Group, Ellsworth. She was a member of the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, Jonesport and later attended United Baptist Church, Ellsworth. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including playing cards with family and friends, traveling with her husband, Willis and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leona was the loving mother of four children, Judith W Chizmas and her husband, Gus, of Apache Junction, Ariz., Willis N. White Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Ellsworth, Kenneth V. White and his wife, Jeri, of Ellsworth, Cathy A. Saucier and her husband, Roland, of Attleboro, Mass.; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Merton and William Garnett of Jonesport, Greta Thebeau of St. Petersburg, Fla., Robert Garnett of North Anson, Neil Garnett of Westport, Mass., Clarence Garnett Jr. of Milton Mills, N.H.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband of 53 years and her parents, she was predeceased by one grandson, Brent W. Lumley; and two sisters, Hazel Noerr and Fern Alley. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, with Pastor Robert Maddocks officiating.
