MADAWASKA – Leonard Vaillancourt, 97, passed away April 8, 2008, at a Frenchville health care facility. He was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Fort Kent, the son of Joseph and Agnes Vaillancourt. Leonard was drafted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as an engine mechanic. He settled in Madawaska after being discharged in 1946, where he worked at Fraser Paper, until his retirement in 1974. He was a 60-year member of Thomas O. Cyr Legion Post No. 147, Madawaska. He is survived by two sons, Rick Vaillancourt and his wife, Georgette, of Edmundston, New Brunswick, and Guy Vaillancourt and his wife, Mila, of Napa Valley, Calif.; and one stepsister, Lucille Toschi of Fort Kent. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Labrie) Vaillancourt. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Friends and family may call 9 a.m. until time of service at Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
