LINCOLN – Lester Wallace Smith, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, died Feb. 3, 2006, at his home. He was born March 17, 1921, in Prentiss, the son of George Alfred and Kate (McAlpine) Smith. Lester was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, in Europe and Africa. He worked as a forester for 27 years for Dead River Company from which he retired. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorleene (Moores) Smith; a son, Galen Lester Smith; a grandson, Lester Lee Smith, a sister, Beatrice Severance; and three brothers, Earl, Elmer and Merlin Smith. He is survived by five children, Natalie Ann Parent and her fiance, Frederick Curtis Jr., Cynthia Lee Cronin, Brian Tracy Smith and his wife, Peggy, Rossie Irma Fitzgerald and her husband, Leonard and Suzette Amy Worster and her husband, Thomas; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Eleanor Webster, Dorothy Dill and Mabel Dill; four brothers, Alfred, Herbert, Ivan and Mayland Smith; and a special caregiver and friend, Layni Jean Ewing. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carroll Smith, officiating. Spring interment will be in Moores Cemetery, Carroll. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Lincoln Veterans Memorial Fund.
