TOPSFIELD – Leta Helen Noyes Getchell, 79, wife of Erold, died May 11, 2005, at her home after a long illness. She was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Danforth, the daughter of Clyde and Lydia Noyes. Leta graduated from Danforth High School and worked at G.E. in Connecticut, Bomax Inc. in Massachusetts, and Cox Manufacturing in California before returning back to Maine and Topsfield. She taught Sunday School at the local Congregational Church and worked as a secretary for Dead River Co., in Topsfield for many years. An avid outdoors person, Leta enjoyed hunting, fishing, flowers, gardening, and the get-togethers with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Erold; only son, David and his wife, June, of Norridgewock; two grandchildren, Tim and his wife, Janette; and great-granddaughter, Rebecca of Baltimore, Md., and Kim and great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn of Camden; brothers, Clyde and his wife, Barbara, of Dennysville, Lloyd and his wife, Rachel, of Topsfield, and Colby and his wife, Cindy, of Danforth; sisters, Ardis Burns of Bangor, Ione Robertson and her husband, Herbert, Charlene and her husband, Sidney, and Lydia Preston, all of Weston; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. Leta was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Archie, Harland and Amos Noyes; and sisters, Wanda Dixon and Clara Goodwin. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, with her nephew, Pastor Brian Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in Hunnewell Acres Cemetery, Topsfield.
