EAST MACHIAS – Lewis A. Gatcomb Sr. went to be with the Lord Aug. 24, 2007, after a long, nine-year battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born June 22, 1926, and raised in East Machias. He was the son of the late Ross and Alma Ashley Gatcomb. Lute was a strong and loving man devoted to his family. He was a Korean War veteran as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Cutler Navy Base after 22 years of service. Lewis also was a truck driver, a woodcutter and a lobster fisherman. He also had quite a green thumb, growing anything from a vegetable garden to the trees around the home he built for his family. Lewis Sr. is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ramona S. Gatcomb of East Machias; his daughter, Patricia and John Bridges of Machiasport; his son, Lewis and Janie Gatcomb Jr. of Monmouth; grandsons, Nicholas and Allison Bridges of Toledo, Ohio, Derek and Jordan “Alex” Bridges of Bar Harbor, Jeremy Gatcomb of Monmouth and Matthew Gatcomb of Monmouth; granddaughter, Devon Bridges; special friend, Brandis Townsend of East Machias; his brother, Bill and Gwen Gatcomb of Winthrop; sister, Arlane “Sal” Greenlaw of Brunswick; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Gatcomb; six great-grand-children, Michael Lewis, William Leroy, Gavin Joseph, Kyla Marie, Aviva Elizabeth and Thadeus Nehemiah; nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and an abundance of extended family. Lewis A. Gatcomb Sr. was predeceased by his mother and father, Alma and Ross Gatcomb; his daughter, Brenda Joyce Gatcomb; brothers, Morrill “Jack,” Arthur “Joe,” Ross II “Rossie”; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Margaret Sprague. Relatives and immediate friends are welcome to attend a visiting hour noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias. Procession will leave the funeral home and proceed to the graveside service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chase’s Mill Cemetery, East Machias, with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating.
