SANDY POINT – Lewis Sumter Armstrong Jr., 81, died March 25, 2006, at a Belfast hospital. He was born April 17, 1924, in Union Springs, Ala., son of Lewis S. and Ruth (Davis) Armstrong Sr. Lewis was a World War II Veteran serving as a U.S. Naval aviator. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in electrical engineering and began his lengthy work career in 1948 at Westinghouse Electric Corp., Newark, N.J., where he served as a field representative and then continued as vice president/general manager of the A.B. Chance Company, Centralia, Mo. He then served as president/chief executive officer for the following companies: Kearney National Inc., New York, N.Y.; Lockwood Corp., Gering, Neb.; Corken International, Oklahoma City, Okla. and MFI Corp., Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong retired to Sandy Point in the early 1990’s. He served two terms as Stockton Springs selectman and attended Sandy Point Congregational Church. He enjoyed boating with his family, hiking with his grandchildren and golf with his wife and friends. He is survived by his wife, Constance (Brewer) Armstrong of Sandy Point; four children, Martha Armstrong Stamp of Sandy Point, Richard Ainslie Armstrong of Vancouver, Wash., Carolyn Armstrong Horn of Camden, Lewis Donald Armstrong of Minatare, Neb.; grandchildren, Laura Stamp Luff, Melinda Stamp, Adam William Stamp, Joanna Therese Armstrong, Jonathan Lewis Armstrong, William Armstrong Horn, April Beth Armstrong, Henry Donald Armstrong, John Fanders Armstrong; and great-grandchildren, Jamika and Rashawn. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Sandy Point Congregational Church, with Pastor Ruth Martin officiating. Interment later in the spring will be in Sandy Point Cemetery with military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to Stockton Springs Town Hall Restoration Fund, P.O.
