PRESQUE ISLE – Linwood Bennett Cronkite, 92, died peacefully at home in his sleep July 5, 2005. He was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Samuel and Effie (Johnston) Cronkite. He was one of twelve children. Linwood was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School. Linwood farmed in Presque Isle for 35 years. Many kids and adults have fond memories of picking potatoes for him on the Parkhurst Siding Road. He attended the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church. Linwood married Mildred A. Sawyer on Sept. 7, 1940. Together they raised six children. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, his children and their spouses, Pamela and Roger Jardine of Presque Isle, and their son, Chad and his wife, Tina, of Perham, Brent and Nancy Cronkite of Presque Isle and their children, Christa and Michael Waugh of Caribou, Megan and Nathan Cronkite of Presque Isle, Candice and David Williams of Presque Isle and their children, Elizabeth and Tera, Lynne and Michael Gardiner of Presque Isle and their children, Amanda and David Lovely and Marissa Gardiner of Presque Isle, Randy and Carrie Cronkite of Westfield and their children, Seth Cronkite of Bangor, Elena Lozada of Portland, Bethany, Louis and Christopher Lozada of Westfield, Dale Sue and Steven Deabay of Brewer, and their children, Brad, Brock, Kerri-Ann, Taniesha and Eli. Linwood was a proud great- grandfather of Tyler Jardine of Perham and Gaisa Luna of Westfield; three brothers, Lawrence, Joe, and Carvell; two sisters, Lois Fowler and Phyllis Leavitt; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. Relatives and friends may call noon until time of service at the funeral home. A private interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Linwood to the Missions Fund of the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 763, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
