NORRIDGEWOCK – Linwood L. Sawyer, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home, Skowhegan. He was born March 23, 1924, in Moose River, son of Ora Mandel and Villa (Wilson) Sawyer. He moved to Skowhegan in 1937 and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1942. He was an outstanding high school baseball and basketball player and played for several baseball town teams. He remained a life long Red Sox fan. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in February 1943 and saw action on Guam and Iwo Jima with the 3rd Marine Division. He married Ruth Ann Tuscan, March 30, 1947. He worked for Fox and Ginn, Sampson’s Supermarket and Norwock Shoe. He then worked for Maine Breeding Coop and Eastern A.I. Coop as an artificial inseminator of dairy cattle. During the 30 years he worked breeding cattle, Linwood thoroughly enjoyed the positive relationships developed with the farm families. His parents and six brothers, Howell, Harold, Rollo, Ellsworth, Milford and Glendon predeceased Linwood. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; son, Bruce Sawyer and wife, Lynne, of Ellsworth; daughter, Diane Drew and husband, Tim, of Norridgewock; and son, Tobey Sawyer and fiance, Lisa Shorey, of Norridgewock; granddaughters, Katie Sawyer of Arlington, Mass. and Kelsey Drew of Norridgewock; grandsons, Todd Sawyer and wife, Angela, of Ellsworth and Dylan Drew of Waterville; great-granddaughter, Paige Sawyer of Ellsworth. A graveside ceremony will be held in the spring.
