VAN BUREN – Lionel C. Pelletier, 86, died March 12, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 6, 1918, in Van Buren, the son of Denis and Flavie (Martin) Pelletier. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was wounded in combat in Germany in 1945. Subsequently he was awarded a Purple Heart and remained disabled by blindness for 61 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post 49 of Van Buren. Lionel is survived by his wife, Gladys (Jacques) Ouellette Pelletier of Van Buren; one daughter, Doreen Sopha and her husband, Marty, of Michigan; three granddaughters, Tammy Gomoluch, Maureen Foley Bolling and her husband, David Bolling, Judy Dumond and her husband, John; two grandsons, Craig Raines and wife, Michelle, and Dennis Pelletier; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Pelletier; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; four step-sons, Daniel Ouellette of Las Vegas, Nev., Gene Ouellette of Van Buren, Kevin Ouellette of Waterville, Tim Ouellette of Caribou; four stepdaughters, Tanya Pennington of Las Vegas, Nev.; Darilyn Tardif and Nadine Cyr, both of Van Buren, Charlene Cormier of Hamlin; 17 stepgrandchildren, 12 great-stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Gertrude (Sirois) Pelletier in 1983; two sons, Kenneth Pelletier and Clayton Pelletier; one daughter, Verna Pelletier; two granddaughters, Paula Pelletier and Tara Sopha; one granddaughter-in-law, Shana Pelletier; three sisters, Edwin Webber, Victorine Pelletier and Martha Pelletier; and by one brother, Chanel Pelletier. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
