FORT KENT – Lionel D. Madore, 83, passed away March 19, 2007, at a Fort Kent hospital after a courageous battle with lymphocytic leukemia. He was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Fort Kent Mills, the son of Dennis and Marie (Cyr) Madore. Lionel was a devoted family man and took great joy from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a soft-spoken man who guided his family by example. Lionel served in the military during World War II as Army combat medic, with Company C. 9th Medical Battalion, 9th Infantry Division. He served in six campaigns, including North Africa, Sicily, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge, along with others. Lionel worked for the B&A Railroad for 36 years. For 18 years he worked as a brakeman, conductor, and the last 18 years as an engineer until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the VFW Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609 and the American Legion, both of Fort Kent. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Pelletier) Madore of Fort Kent; two daughters, Mary Marquis and her husband, Norman, of St. John and Anne Madore of Fort Kent; three sons, Robert “Bob” Madore and his wife, Theresa, of Glenburn, Paul Madore and his wife, Donna, of Fort Kent and Daniel Madore and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Kent; two brothers, Reginald Madore and Philip Madore, both of Fort Kent; one sister, Regina Early of Fort Kent; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Camille and Rosaire; and one sister, Lorette Audibert. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2 p.m. Friday until time of services at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial with full military honors will be celebrated 4 p.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Burial will be held May 11. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to a charity of their choice.
