MADAWASKA LAKE Llewellyn S. Forbes unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on his 70th birthday while serving with the “Sewers” on a short-term mission outreach in Elberta, Ala. He was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Caribou, the son of Stratton and Crystal (Harris) Forbes. He was a graduate of Caribou High School, enlisted in the Army National Guard, and served for four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, primarily stationed on Block Island, R.I. He also served in the National Guard Reserves for an additional seven years. He worked in Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base before pursuing a career in the farming business, which he continued for 35 years until his medical retirement. Llewellyn married his beloved high school sweetheart, Mildred Forsman on March 31, 1956. He served for many years as a deacon of the Stockholm Baptist Church, followed by several years of service as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of New Sweden. Llewellyn also served on the New Sweden School Comm-ittee as member and chairman for many years. He was active in a number of other community activities, but one of his greatest delights was singing, serving the Lord, and enjoying his family and friends. Lew will be remembered for his famous chocolate fudge and his spirited piano playing. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Mildred (Forsman) Forbes of Madawaska Lake; son, Bryan Forbes and his wife, Anne, of Madawaska Lake; two daughters, Lynn (Forbes) Turnbull and her husband, Alan, of New Sweden, and Bonnie (Forbes) Bouchard and husband, Jeff, of Caribou; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Christopher and Catherine Forbes, Joshua, Seth, Sarah, and Matthew Turnbull, Travis and Molly Bouchard; one great-granddaughter, Marissa Forbes . Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of New Sweden where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, with Pastor Bob Blackstone officiating. Interment with an Honorary Flag Ceremony will take place immediately following the funeral service at the Jemtland Cemetery, New Sweden. Pallbearers will be special friends, Gary Kelley and Guy Michaud, and grandsons, Daniel and Christopher Forbes, Joshua, Seth and Matthew Turnbull and Travis Bouchard. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may contribute memorial gifts to missions outreach and the Lord’s Pantry through the First Baptist Church of New Sweden. Funeral arrangements are by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou. <
